The Majority Of Brazilians Support Impeaching Bolsonaro, According To Poll
According to a poll released on Saturday, 54% of Brazilians support Bolsonaro's impeachment, while 42% oppose it. A separate Datafolha poll released on Thursday found that 51% of Brazilians disapproved of Bolsonaro, the highest figure since he took office in January 2019.
In recent weeks, Brazil has been shaken by corruption allegations, in which it is alleged that federal officials solicited bribes in order to expedite and overpay for the Covaxin vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech. The Brazilian Health Ministry suspended the $304 million contract. Both a Health Ministry official and a congressman have said they discussed the Covaxin deal with Bolsonaro, but that no action appeared to have been taken. A Supreme Court judge authorized an investigation of the president last week for dereliction of duty. According to official figures, more than 522,000 Brazilians have died from COVID19, second only to the United States. The number of deaths is expected to rise due to Bolsonaro's failure to address the virus appropriately and his horrific dismissal of the dangers of the virus.
