Documents Reveal The Kremlin's Plot To Elect Donald Trump
Documents from a top-level Kremlin meeting in 2016 indicate that Russia had compromising information about Donald Trump, who was running for president at the time.
Are the documents legitimate?
The documents were reported by the Guardian on Thursday, July 15, 2021. The Guardian said it used expert analysis to verify the documents. Additionally, they included verifiable circumstantial evidence. The documents were also known to Western intelligence agencies.
The Plot
According to the documents, the meeting was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and senior intelligence and military officials on January 22, 2016. The main topic of the closed meeting was a plan to deploy Russian intelligence to help Trump defeat Hillary Clinton in the election. Russian officials believed that a Trump victory would aid Russia by badly destabilizing the US. In a meeting with the Kremlin delegates, it was stated that Trump was the best option to promote the Kremlin's strategic objectives because he would cause "social turmoil" and undermine the Presidential election. One report by Putin's expert department called for "all possible force" to be used to ensure Trump's victory, and that the Kremlin viewed him as the "most promising candidate." They stated, Trump's victory "will definitely lead to the destabilization of the US's sociopolitical system."
What the US government knew
US intelligence determined in early 2017 that Russia conducted an elaborate and multifaceted campaign to interfere with the 2016 election. As part of this effort, it recruited unwitting assets; hacked into the Democratic National Committee and leaked emails that damaged Hillary Clinton's campaign; It also conducted social media disinformation campaigns to favor Donald Trump; and targeted electoral infrastructure in as many as 39 states. The special counsel Robert Mueller also concluded in his final report that "the Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome. He also concluded that the Trump Campaign expected it would benefit electorally from information stolen and released by Russia.
Why did Russia choose Trump?
Russian intelligence provided a psychological profile of Trump that described him as "impulsive, mentally unstable and unbalanced individual who suffers from an inferiority complex." The document also mentioned compromising material on the former president said to be held by Russia. The issue of kompromat on Donald Trump has long been the subject of speculation and analysis.

The documents said the material had been collected on Trump's "non-official visits to Russian Federation territory," it is unclear which dates the visits were made or if it was during soviet rule. The documents also mentioned "certain events" during Trump's trips to Moscow, although more details regarding those were not made clear. Claims that Russia had obtained lurid private information about Trump that it could be used to blackmail Donald Trump appeared on at least two dossiers. The first was compiled by a former UK intelligence officer who claimed compromising materials, including a rumored Trump pee tape. Which many experts believe is a red herring. The 2nd dossier was compiled by YAC, which claims Trump's involvement with organized crime and child trafficking provided Russia enough material to blackmail the former president.

The investigative outlet Spooky Connections also compiled information regarding a soviet-era operation to use Trump to infiltrate the US media elite and political circles, including the white house. (Read More Here)

Russia denies all allegations that it compromised Trump or that it had an operation to infiltrate the US leadership.
